Tsikoudia is a crystal clear grape spirit, traditionally produced by each Cretan family for personal consumption and visitor hospitality. Cretan hospitality dictates that every visitor be offered this heart-warming drink upon arrival, or after dinner. According to historical scholars, tsikoudia's history dates back to the ancient Minoans. Even then tsikoudia was the Minoans' favourite drink to accompany meals.

Savour your first tsikoudia by sipping slowly, no need to throw it back unless you feel inspired! If you don't want another no one will be offended but you risk walking out with one leg. Local custom suggest it is better to have two drinks, as you have two legs. Cretan tsikoudia requires that food be offered with alcohol, so the perfect mixture of local delicacies will accompany your drink.
